In a multimedia experiment that spans decades of experience, Joseph Michael Vaccaro is testing whether readers and listeners will follow a story across two mediums simultaneously. His debut novel “Ascension Into Imagination” isn’t just a book—it’s half of an artistic equation, with companion albums “Cinematronica” and “Cinematronica 2” serving as the musical score to the written narrative.
The concept is straightforward: read the book while streaming the soundtrack, creating an immersive experience that Vaccaro describes as “The Wizard of Oz” meets “Harry Potter,” but with an ambient electronic backbone. The story follows Aris, a young traveler moving through dream landscapes with a companion called the Sleepthief, encountering mystical creatures and discovering courage and purpose through creativity.
Four Decades in the Music Industry
Vaccaro brings substantial credentials to the project. Over 40 years, he’s remixed hundreds of songs for major artists including Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Rihanna, and Taylor Swift through services like Select Mix and Hot Tracks. Under his Dream Factory, Noxious9 and Bela Baia pseudonyms, he’s composed over a dozen albums. His professional DJ entertainment and music production work has built a foundation that now supports this more experimental venture.
The Cinematronica project emerges from Syntopian Studios, Vaccaro’s Tucson, Arizona recording facility that handles everything from audio recording to post-production mastering. It’s published through his own Pistolwhip Publishing imprint, with both Vaccaro as songwriter and Pistolwhip Publishing as music publisher holding ASCAP memberships.
The Crossover Challenge
The real question is whether fans of fantasy literature—readers who gravitate toward wizarding schools and journeys down yellow brick roads—will embrace a format that asks them to engage with ambient electronic music. It’s a niche bet, targeting people who exist at the intersection of literary fantasy and experimental music consumption.

While Vaccaro’s day job remains in IT, where he’s worked in technical support and team lead roles at Microsoft, Apple, Intuit, and other major corporations, his long term goal is to focus entirely on his music production and publishing ventures, and expand into film and television composition. The Cinematronica saga is designed to be a vehicle to innovate electronic music and fantasy literature into new eras of creativity and expand the boundaries of film and television music.
Building an Independent Music Ecosystem
What’s notable is the infrastructure Vaccaro has built. V-Sound Productions operates as an umbrella over multiple divisions: the DJ entertainment service, Syntopian Studios for recording, Pistolwhip Publishing for books and music rights, V-Sound Remix for DJ-specific content, and even Sonic Series Systems for web hosting. It’s a self-contained ecosystem designed to support artists—starting with himself.
The Cinematronica albums are available on major streaming platforms, with the book positioned as the narrative framework that gives the instrumental music concrete meaning. Whether readers will treat the companion soundtracks as essential or optional remains to be seen. But for creators looking to control their own distribution and rights, Vaccaro’s model offers one template for building independence without traditional publishing or label support…and it seems to be working.
